Getting there

Both dropzones are a comfortable drive from Hamilton, and a rental car makes it easy to combine your jump with a visit to the Hobbiton movie set or the Waikato's gardens and river trails. Best time to jump

The Waikato is green for a reason — it sees its share of rain — so settled, clear days are the goal. Summer and autumn (December–May) generally bring the most reliable conditions and long daylight. As with anywhere, jumps are weather-dependent, so book early and keep a spare day in reserve.

What to expect

After check-in and a briefing, you'll gear up and climb to altitude for a freefall of under a minute before the canopy opens for a scenic float down over the farmland. First-timers always jump tandem with an instructor; licensed jumpers should check sport-jump availability with the dropzone ahead of time.
