About Skydiving in Miami

Miami offers one of the most spectacular skydiving experiences in the world. Imagine jumping from 13,000 feet with breathtaking views of turquoise Atlantic waters, the Art Deco architecture of South Beach, and the Everglades' unique landscape stretching to the horizon.

Year-Round Jumping

Unlike seasonal destinations, Miami's tropical climate means you can skydive 365 days a year. Average temperatures range from 70-90°F (21-32°C), with calm morning winds perfect for first-time jumpers. The consistent weather makes Miami one of the most reliable skydiving destinations in the United States.

Coastal Views

Miami dropzones offer some of the most Instagram-worthy views in skydiving. On a clear day, you'll see the downtown Miami skyline, Key Biscayne, and miles of pristine coastline. Some dropzones even offer beach landings, adding an extra thrill to your experience.

Professional Operations

South Florida's dropzones are among the most experienced in the nation, having trained thousands of skydivers from around the world. Many offer multilingual staff, catering to Miami's diverse international tourism. You'll find USPA-certified instructors with decades of experience and top-notch safety records.

Convenience for Visitors

Most dropzones are 20-40 minutes from Miami International Airport and major hotels in South Beach, Brickell, and Downtown Miami. Many visitors book morning jumps and spend afternoons exploring South Beach, the Design District, or Little Havana. The combination of adventure and urban exploration makes Miami a perfect destination.

What to Expect

Tandem skydiving in Miami typically costs $199-$299 depending on altitude and add-ons. You'll be securely attached to a USPA-certified instructor for the entire jump. Most packages include a safety briefing (15-20 minutes), gear fitting and plane ride (20-30 minutes), 45-60 seconds of freefall at 120 mph, and a 5-7 minute parachute ride with beach or grass landing.

Video packages are available for $79-$149 for hand-cam or external videography to capture your experience. For those wanting to jump solo, Accelerated Freefall (AFF) courses cost $1,800-$2,500 for levels 1-7. Miami's perfect weather means you can often complete training in 5-7 days, making it ideal for vacation learners.

Best Time to Jump

Peak season runs from November through April, offering the best conditions with low humidity, clear blue skies, and comfortable temperatures (70-80°F). This is also peak tourist season, so book 2-3 weeks in advance. Summer months (May-October) are still excellent for skydiving, though you should expect higher temperatures (85-95°F) and afternoon thunderstorms. The best strategy is to jump mornings (8am-11am) when conditions are calmest.

Weather holds are rare but can occur during tropical systems from June to November (hurricane season). Miami benefits from consistent trade winds, with the calmest conditions in early morning. December through February offers the clearest days with up to 40-mile visibility, while June through August can be hazy with humidity but still offer good jumping conditions.

Getting to Dropzones

All Miami-area dropzones are accessible via major highways. From Miami Beach or Downtown, expect 30-45 minutes via I-95 or US-1. From Miami International Airport (MIA), it's typically 25-35 minutes, and from Fort Lauderdale, plan for 35-50 minutes. Rental cars are recommended for flexibility, with major companies at MIA charging $40-70 per day.

Rideshare options like Uber or Lyft cost $35-$65 each way from Miami Beach, making round trips $70-$130. For groups of 4-6, request an SUV or XL vehicle. All dropzones offer free parking with spaces for 50-100 cars. Some hotels offer dropzone shuttles (ask your concierge), and a few dropzones provide pickup from major hotels for groups of 6 or more with advance notice.

Public transit is not practical for reaching dropzones, as Miami's Metrorail doesn't extend to these areas. Many visitors combine their skydiving adventure with Everglades tours or Key Largo snorkeling, both of which are nearby.

The Skydiving Scene

Miami's skydiving scene is vibrant and diverse, reflecting the city's international character. Dropzones here cater to everyone from nervous first-timers to seasoned skydivers chasing new records. The atmosphere is laid-back yet professional, with instructors who prioritize safety while ensuring you have the time of your life.

The local skydiving community is tight-knit and welcoming. Many dropzones organize regular events, including sunset jumps, formation skydiving camps, and coaching weekends. You'll find skydivers from around the world, making it a great place to connect with the global skydiving community.

For experienced jumpers, Miami offers excellent facilities including turbine aircraft (Cessna Caravan, Twin Otter, King Air), professional load organizers, and coaching for CRW (canopy relative work), freefly, and wingsuit disciplines. Jump prices range from $25-$35 per jump to 13,000-14,000 feet, competitive with major dropzones nationwide.
